Tips and tricks to maintain your aluminum doors and windows

Do you ever struggle opening your windows or doors for some fresh air? We’ve all been there! Every now and then handle fixing screws start to loosen, causing the window to operate difficultly and further damaging the fixing holes. Lucky for you, this is easily remedied if caught in time. All you need to do is use an Allen key, or even a normal screwdriver (depending on the screw head on your handle) to tighten the screws. Firstly, you determine the direction towards which the screws turn (righty tighty, lefty loosy). Then, you simply tighten them using either of the tools mentioned. If the holes are too damaged, you can add a length of fine wire to the screw, so they fit properly. With this simple trick, you can save money, whilst having your windows work better.
Oftentimes, struggling to open/close aluminium doors and windows, may happen when the thin rubber material on the frames is displaced. This material, which you have all seen, is known as a gasket, and repairing one is easier than you might think. To return the gasket to its original shape, you simply push it firmly from the sides until it fits correctly. You may have to take your time, but you do not need any tools or equipment for it. Once the gasket is in its place, your aluminium doors and windows will not only close properly, but they will seal heat and prevent noise way more efficiently. Who knew maintaining could be done this easily…?
Another simple step to a proper maintenance is keeping your aluminium windows and doors from getting too dirty. Cleaning the window/door tracks regularly prevents dirt accumulation which could, over time, lead to premature breakdown of aluminium. To clean the tracks, you need water, soap, and a cloth or towel. You start with cleaning and rinsing off the windows or doors to make sure they are clean before starting to wash their tracks. Then, you run a damp cloth with soapy water over the tracks to get those hard-to-reach areas. After you have thoroughly cleaned them, dry off any excess water which could lead to mould growth, by using a dry towel or another cloth. This process will help maintain the visual integrity of your aluminium frames for as long as possible.
We now come to the question of why you should choose aluminium windows and doors, and the answer to that lies in the advantages that they provide. While the initial cost of aluminium windows and doors may be higher than some other options, it is their longevity and ease of maintenance that make them cheaper in the long term. In addition to that, they’re energy efficient. When combined with the right glass, they provide great insulation, thus keeping your home warmer, and your electric bills lower. Another advantage? They look absolutely stunning!
